Ok, so this will be a random blog about a lot of things... because I am behind in my blog ;)
First of all, Fete de la Musique was great.
DSK cocktail anyone?
It was very loud and there was music around every corner...literally...from trance to house, gospel to French rap. (awesome btw)
I walked around with my friend and enjoyed the scene very much except for the next morning when my head was pounding...which is why I did not blog. Too many DSK's.
Ok, moving on.
Some stories about "Lost in French" translation.
Last week I went to a party and on the way home I could not find the metro. So I decided to stop some women on the street and ask for directions.
Où est le métro, SVP?
In French:
left = gauche
right = droit
straight = doites.
Usually, when someone is directing you they say "tourner a gauche, aller tout droit"...etc.
But as you can see "right" and "straight" are almost the same word....so if you are not listening carefully it is very confusing.
So when the women responded to my question it sounded like, "blah blah, droit blah"
Can you repeat that please?
Turn blah, then droit, then blah...was that right, straight, right again?
Anyway, 4 trains and 1.5 hours later I finally made it back to my hood only to have a friend tell me I could have walked home. Why don't I have a map you ask? I don't like maps so it served me right...or straight...or blah blah blah.
NEXT
France only has sales 2 times a year in all the clothing stores and it is happening right now.
BIG SALES
But before I knew this I was walking down the street and I saw this window....
I thought to myself, why are they showing you a bag that has already been sold in the window?...stupid.
Only to discover "soldes" means "sale" in French.
But then I realized "sale" in French means "dirty", so the French might come to the States and think we are selling dirty clothes.
Moving on.
The pigeon has been sitting on the eggs for two weeks now...rain or shine. Most people don't like pigeons but I have to say the unconditional love these eggs are getting melts my heart. The pigeon is used to me coming to the window now.
I can't wait to see the babies!
And lastly Higgins.
He is happier than ever. He was named most popular dog in the neighborhood by the regulars at Au Reve and it is easy to see why.
He got that french fry by the way.
And for his housewarming party, he invited over a lot of guest.
I also found a yogurt container, a sock, and a button inside his house the morning after.
Running to the office now to take care of some things and maybe buy a map. I think it's time.
au revoir!
